According to witnesses, Miguel Arjona Sánchez, the candidate of Morena for mayor of Hoctún, distributed fertilizers to farmers in the region in exchange for votes.
The incident in the sports unit, where thousands of tons of the chemical have been stored for weeks.
What generated surprise was that the candidate, without being an employee of SEGALMEX (Mexican Food Security), was preparing to distribute the fertilizer to the farmers of his municipality, in a totally irregular fashion.
The person responsible for the sports unit allowed the Morena candidate to store the fertilizer there.
Agents of the National Guard, municipal police, and personnel from the Izamal City Council arrived at the scene to verify the situation.
The person in charge of the SEGALMEX office in Yucatán also showed up, which generated tension between those involved.
Finally, an agreement was reached so that the thousands of kilos of fertilizer found in the warehouse would not be delivered until after the elections.
The SEGALMEX delegate did not make any statements and quickly left the scene to avoid being questioned about the incident.
