Mérida is advertised in Guatemala as a tourist destination

As part of the strategic alliances to attract More Tourism to the City of Mérida, the City Council, in collaboration with the airline Tag Airlines, successfully presented the Yucatecan capital as a tourist destination in Guatemala.

In the presence of 15 Guatemalan media outlets and 64 members of 44 local tour operators, the cultural, sports, tourist, and gastronomic offer that has consolidated the Yucatecan capital was announced.

In addition, 13 companies from the local tourism industry and the rest of the state held meetings with specialized service providers from said Central American country to provide them with the necessary information, and in this way increase and reinforce the existing air connectivity between Mérida and Guatemala operated by TAG Airlines.

The presentation was attended by José Luis Martínez Semerena, director of Economic Development and Tourism, representing the mayor of Mérida Alejandro Ruz Castro; Alejandro Martínez Peralta, head of the consular section, representing the Ambassador of Mexico in Guatemala, Romeo Ruiz Armenta; Gerardo Peralta, representative of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT) and Marcella Toriello, president of TAG Airlines.

Martínez Semerena indicated that the geographical and cultural proximity that unites Mérida with Guatemala allows the commercial and industrial exchange between Yucatecan and Guatemalan businessmen to be strengthened, thus providing better economic development for all.

The strategic location of the Yucatan Peninsula, advantage for Mérida

“The strategic location of the Yucatan Peninsula, as well as the transportation routes, and hotel capacity, among other indicators, allows collaboration projects to be carried out between both states and cities that result in a benefit for the inhabitants of the participating cities,” he mentioned.

For his part, Gerardo Padilla pointed out: «We are allies of these initiatives that Tag Airlines and the Mérida City Council are carrying out. We are an hour away by flight and to do business, both cities are in an ideal strategic location to do business. “We are here to support you, consider INGUAT an ally.”

After the welcome protocol, the presentation of “Mérida, your next destination” was carried out by Martínez Semerena, to give way to the president of CANIRAC-Yucatán, Claudia González Góngora, who talked about Mérida’s gastronomic offer.

Likewise, the journalist Félix Ucán Salazar took the floor to present the book “20 Facts About Chichén Itzá”, where he recounts chronicles and facts about said Mayan city that undoubtedly unites us with the Guatemalan country, in history and tradition.

After the presentations, both delegations had the opportunity to establish relationships that would lead to business and exchanges between both countries.

It is worth remembering that TAG Airlines has a direct Mérida-Guatemala flight, with a frequency of 3 days a week, which strengthens the link between both destinations.
