In a historic literary activity, on Friday, March 15th, students from the “Miguel Alemán Valdez” Multigrade Indigenous Primary School, of San José Chahuay in Chemax, presented the book titled “Hey!, I tell you a Story” of their authorship, which was published with the invaluable support from their teacher Edith Borges Castillo and the multigrade pedagogical guide, Rubí Teyer Buenfil.
The work was presented at the stand of the Ministry of Education of the Government of the State of Yucatán at the International Reading Fair (Filey 2024), before visitors, educational authorities, and students from various school campuses, where the authors from Their perspectives narrate the love for their community environment, for the animals, the countryside and the elements that make up their daily lives.
The edition of “Hey!, I’ll tell you a story” is a work that fuses narratives in Spanish and Mayan, each coming from the unique experiences of the students in their community with animals. This collection of anthologies, made up of 18 titles, reflects the talent and dedication of the 18 students who make up the multigrade modality in Chahuay, Chemax. Not only did they write their stories, but they also illustrated them with their own drawings, giving each page a unique charm.
The teacher responsible for the multigrade classroom, Edith Borges Castillo, highlighted the value of this project which was developed for a year, as part of a comprehensive strategy to foster a love of reading and strengthen writing skills among her students.
“This project arose to cultivate the habit of reading in my students, and what better way than allowing them to become the star of their own stories? “They are excited to see their creations captured in a book and to present them at such an important event for literature in Yucatan,” said Borges Castillo with pride.
It is worth mentioning that the project, in addition to entertaining, seeks to stimulate imagination and creativity, as they are conceived by the fresh and energetic minds of boys and girls. Each story takes the reader on a unique journey, where the illustrations come to life and the words awaken emotions.
