Authorities from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) corroborated the correct use of the equipment donated to the Intensive Care Units (ICU) in the “Dr. Agustín O’Horán” in Mérida and Valladolid, to attend to the health of the Yucatecan population by strengthening medical capacity in the state, indicates a statement.
JICA was established as an Incorporated Administrative Agency under the Act of the Incorporated Administrative Agency – Japan International Cooperation Agency (Act No. 136, 2002), JICA aims to contribute to the promotion of international cooperation as well as the sound development of Japanese and global economy by supporting the socioeconomic development, recovery or economic stability of developing regions.
The JICA delegation that came to Merida was made up of Hiroyuki Ohno, Eriko Tsuchiya, and Takahide Kameda, from the board of Japan; Yasushi Araki, Hitomi Obata of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA); Ryu Murasawa, from the Japanese embassy in Mexico, and Susumu Saito, Makoto Hirata, Mahomi Masuoka, Eiji Araki from JICA; together with the director of Prevention and Health Protection of the Yucatan Health Secretariat (SSY), Carlos Isaac Hernández Fuentes, corroborated the success of the project and its sustainable impact on quality care in the ICUs of both hospitals.
During the visit, it was reaffirmed that the cooperation between the governments of Yucatan and Japan especially benefits the population without social security, highlighting the commitment and collaboration between both nations to benefit Yucatecans in the field of health.
During the visit of JICA representatives, the development of skills and use of equipment that has improved medical care during the coronavirus contingency was demonstrated.
This exchange with Japan has also contributed to the professional growth of doctors and nurses from both countries, who have shared experiences for the benefit of the Yucatecan population.
The project started in July 2021.
