Statistics from the Ministry of Economy reveal that the EID profits generated in Q. Roo remain in the form of reinvestments.

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during 2023 reached 985 million US dollars in Quintana Roo. The figure is the highest recorded in the last 16 years in the state, only surpassed by the behavior of 2007, when more than one billion dollars of foreign capital arrived in the state.

According to the detailed report of the Ministry of Economy on Foreign Direct Investment reported in 2023, almost half, 413.7 million dollars, corresponds to the reinvestment of profits.

This refers to the fact that instead of the profits or profits generated in Mexico being distributed among the shareholders, the companies preferred to invest it again, according to an explanation from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

This figure is also one of the highest in recent years.

In 2022, the Ministry of Economy reported that this item barely reached 40 million dollars in Quintana Roo. The temporary accommodation service concentrates most of the total FDI, especially in the construction of houses and buildings with hotel services.

According to the data, between January and December 2023, pensions and guest houses, as well as apartments and homes furnished with hotel services, received a foreign injection of $410 million.

Meanwhile, what corresponds to the hotels, motels and similar sector, the capital flow was 342 million dollars.

Countries that invested the most

On the other hand, Spain, The Netherlands, and Canada increased their investments in Quintana Roo.

The first reached 345 million dollars in 2023. A year before, the flow was only 17.2 million dollars.

In the case of the second, it registered 171.3 million. In 2022, the Netherlands’ indicators were even negative: -35.1 million.

Canada also had an increase in investments. In 2023 this country reached 76.6 million against 71.6 million in 2022.
