A tragic accident on federal highway 307 , in the section between Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Tulum , resulted in the loss of one life and several injuries.
The incident occurred on Sunday around 11:40 at night, near kilometer 224, by the Cristal cenote, when a driver, presumably fatigued, fell asleep at the wheel and collided head-on with a truck carrying hotel staff from the Mayan Zone.
According to the first report from the authorities, the bus driver tried to avoid the collision, but it was inevitable. The impact was so strong that the steering wheel embedded in the neck of the driver of the Atos compact vehicle that was going in front, who was declared dead at the scene by Costamed medical services.
The passengers of the truck, fortunately, only suffered the shock of the accident and were taken to their destination by another vehicle.
Costamed paramedics, firefighters, and Civil Protection agents attended the scene of the accident and proceeded to cut the vehicle’s iron bars to rescue the body of the deceased driver, which was handed over to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) to perform the corresponding autopsy.
