The tourist attraction “El Corchito”, located in Progreso and managed by Cultur, recently received recognition from the Yucatan Health Services (SSY) as a 100% Space Free of Tobacco Smoke and Emissions.
According to a statement, this is the fourth distinction that Cultur has obtained, since it achieved it before for the Yucatán Siglo XXI Convention Center, the Chichén Itzá inn and the Progreso Meteorite Museum.
In a simple event that took place in the Dzibilchaltún Hall of the 21st Century, Mariana Rodríguez Molina, deputy director of Mental Health of the SSY, delivered the corresponding document to the general director of Cultur, Mauricio Díaz Montalvo.
During the event, Mariana Rodríguez stated that talking about smoking and its effects always implies referring to serious health statistics, since science and all modern medicine have shown that smoking deteriorates health in a serious way.
Díaz Montalvo thanked the staff of “El Corchito” for the effort to obtain this distinction, for the benefit of the people who work there and the tourists who come to that tourist space.
“We are all clear that we are responsible for ensuring that our recognized buildings remain that way, free of tobacco smoke and emissions, and if necessary, to support ourselves with the guards or the corresponding authorities when we see that someone is smoking or vaping”, he pointed. To achieve this recognition, at least 80% of the employees received a training talk on the havoc that any type of emission causes to health and how to act to avoid it in public spaces. Then a collection of cigarette butts was carried out to clean the environment of these polluting effects.
