Construction worker dies after a wall collapses in Progreso, Yucatán

On Monday, March 11 an accident occurred in which an older adult was severely injured in Progreso.

The information collected indicates that, around noon, at the premises known as the former Lions Club, on 78th Street (between 27th and 29th), in the city of Progreso, a group of workers entered the premises to carry out demolition works.

An older adult who worked on the construction site as a bricklayer was carrying out his work, when suddenly a wall collapsed on top of him, and the man ended up under a pile of rubble and large pieces of the wall.

Upon hearing the noise caused by the collapse, his colleagues came to help him and others went out into the street to ask for support. Within minutes, several people came to help, and witnesses called 911.

A little later, emergency units including police and firefighters from the SSP, as well as the National Emergency Commission and the Mexican Red Cross, arrived at the site. Firefighters used tools to uncover the person; Once freed from the rubble, the paramedics were in charge of stabilizing and transferring the man to the Progreso Health Center.

At the time of transfer, the man was still conscious.

The police placed yellow tape to prevent access to the site of the accident, while Civil Protection personnel from the City Council, who arrived an hour after the incident, were in charge of carrying out the corresponding investigation to later issue a ruling on the responsibilities of this incident.

It is worth mentioning that none of the workers were wearing safety equipment while carrying out their work.
