Members of the “Animal Welfare” (Bienestar Animal) foundation hope that the State Attorney General’s Office will carry out investigations after the complaint filed for animal abuse at Technical Secondary School number 4 of this city.

The school was involved in a scandal due to the death of at least five dogs that were poisoned and appeared inside the school premises.

The massacre caused outrage among the students and some teachers on campus, so they were raising their voices now.

Posters were posted in the hallways and the doors of the school classrooms demanding justice for the death of the animals.

After the tragedy, the school has been very secretive and the students no longer talk about the issue with their teachers.

On Thursday, March 7th, a demonstration at the school entrance, but there was little participation.

Lucy López Coronado in charge of theAnimal Welfare (Bienestar Animal) foundation, regretted that those who had shown their indignation on social networks did not attend the protest.

Formal complaint filed before the Prosecutor’s Office

The animal rights activist said that on Wednesday, March 6th, the formal complaint # 284/2024 was filed. The Prosecutor’s Office informed her that investigations would begin at the school and that witnesses would be interrogated.

She pointed out that with this the first formal complaint against animal abuse in Tizimín would be established since they always complain, but the foundations and precedent had not been established.

However, it is not just about filing a complaint, but about proceeding and investigating until the ultimate consequences are reached.

The activist said that she was informed that strangely, on Tuesday, March 5th, the corpse of another dog appeared in the school gardens near the soccer field in an advanced state of putrefaction, additionally to those that lived at the school.

That is why they presume that someone put it there to make people believe that the animals died of some kind of disease.

The animal activist pointed out that the case had already reached the Yucatan Education Secretariat because she contacted a high-rank official via text message, and asked them to investigate the educational personnel who could be involved in the poisoning of the animals.

Lopez Coronado sent all the evidence to the state Secretary of Education, Mr. Liborio Vidal, which includes recordings and conversations of students who are being threatened and who openly declare that there have been acts of animal abuse on campus.

Finally, the animal activist said that there are parents who would like to give their support but fear retaliation against their children.
