Cancun hotels report higher incidence of crimes against tourists

Theft is the main complaint from foreign visitors, and the majority of cases do not proceed legally.

Theft inside hotels is the main crime incident reported by national and international tourists during their vacations. However, only 18% proceed legally, according to a survey by the consulting firm Marketing Consultants.

Every month, visitors are screened at airports before they board their departing flights. The objective is to know the profile and opinions of travelers.

So far in 2024, the forecasts proposed by the consulting firm show a growth in the number of visitors 6 million to 6.6 million tourists, both in the hotel zone and downtown Cancun. And the consultng firm says that much work needs to be done on the issues of perception and quality of service.

In the survey, they are also asked about the services that tourists use during their stay, and 19% rated local transportation as bad or very bad, 16% gave a bad rate to Tour Operators, 14% rated the airport as bad or very bad, and 15% rated the sanitary measures as bad.
