Visitors who were walking through the area of the traditional Progreso boardwalk were surprised when they witnessed the stranding of the dolphin.

The unexpected scene was observed by people walking on the wooden walkway of the “Deck” and some recorded the events.

In a video on social media, people can see the cetacean practically stuck between the sand and one of the pilasters that support the chocolate dock.

One of the visitors who was in the sea approached the animal and pulled it into water deep enough for it to swim again on its own.

However, it is recommended that in the event of these sightings it is better to notify the Ecological Police so that, in turn, they alert the Yucatan Marine Mammal Research and Conservation Program (Picmmy) of the Uady, whose researchers are in charge of verifying the conditions. of the specimen.

In other cases, what they have done is take them to a safe handling area to check that the specimen meets the necessary conditions to return to the sea or if it is injured or sick.

As we previously reported, on the morning of Tuesday, March 5, a dolphin was stranded on the beaches of Santa Clara, a port in the municipality of Dzidzantún. Two fishermen detected the marine mammal and requested support from security agencies.
