Woman tries to take her own life after being abused in Mérida

The woman was helped by motorists who saw her on the edge of the metal fence of a bridge with the intention of jumping into the void.

A video of a woman trying to climb the metal fence of a bridge on the Mérida Peripheral Ring Bridge is circulating on social networks, presumably to commit suicide.

The events occurred on the bridge at the exit to Tetiz, on Mérida’s Periférico, near Ciudad Caucel, where a woman, whose identity has not been revealed, had the intention of killing herself.

Fortunately, drivers passing by the place stopped immediately when they saw the woman on the edge of the bridge, got out of their vehicles, grabbed her, and prevented a tragedy.

It is known that the woman between sobs told one of her rescuers “that she had been sexually abused, and that was why she wanted to kill herself.”

Agents from the Ministry of Public Security arrived at the scene, rescued her, and moved her to a safer place.

The woman’s health status and what day the incident occurred are unknown at this time.
