The Mérida Triathlon is back with Elite participants

After four years of not taking place, the Mérida Triathlon is back. On March 2 and 3, between Progreso and Mérida , the main triathlon event held in Yucatán will take place, hoping to reach the limit of 1,600 participants in various categories.

The children’s and youth categories will be held in Progreso on Saturday, March 2nd, and on Sunday, March 3rd, will be the starting signal for open water swimming to take the start towards the state capital, with foreign and Mexican exponents among the participants in search of points, for the World Championships and the Olympic Games in Paris.

This event stopped taking place since the pandemic, is now part of the national circuit, and is the second stage of the official calendar.

In Mérida the first triathlon was held 31 years ago.

The stellar categories, Sprint and Olympic, will swim in Progreso, they will pedal 37 kilometers to get to Merida, and on Paseo de Montejo they will make the second transition to begin the running race, which distance will depend on their category.

The offical presentation took place on Tuesday, February 20th, in an event led by the mayor of Mérida, Alejandro Ruz Canto, and Mauricio Álvarez technical director of the competition.
