In a report, the INE recognizes that, for the first time, in certain municipalities of states such as Chiapas, Guerrero, Michoacán, and Oaxaca there may be criminal groups interfering with the elections.
The National Electoral Institute ( INE ) warned about the risk of installing polling stations in 14 districts, located in four states, mainly due to the presence of organized crime which has provoked serious social and agrarian problems.
In a report prepared by the local boards of the organization, it is recognized, for the first time, that in certain regions of Chiapas, Guerrero, Michoacán, and Oaxaca, polling stations may not be installed due to the violent situation that prevails.
Local news media in Mexico claimed that on January 14, over 74 electoral districts had insecurity problems; In 20 of them, the INE recognized complexity for the installation of polling stations, which coincided with the report.
In Chiapas, five districts are listed. Among them is the 13th, where municipalities such as Chicomuselo are located, where clashes between criminal gangs have caused the displacement of residents.
In Guerrero, one of the most violent states in the country, there are red alerts for districts 1, 3, 5, and 6. District 1 is Ciudad Altamirano, where a few days ago in the community of San Miguel Totolapan criminal groups executed 17 people. And of course, Taxco, which used to be one of the most popular Magic Towns in Mexico, has lately become one of the most violent. where even the Mayor was attacked in broad daylight just a few weeks ago.
In Michoacán and Oaxaca, insecurity problems are mixed with agrarian and social problems.
In the indigenous community of El Coíre, in Aquila, Michoacan, the INE staff were not allowed to enter, and they threatened not to allow the installation of polling stations or the entry of candidates. 16 communities are involved.
In Oaxaca, they have Llano de Guadalupe and San Miguel El Grande, in District 6, where a checkpoint prevents passage of anybody not belonging to the community. While in Santiago Xochitepec, in that same district, there are reports of “armed people”, so “there is a latent risk”.
And according to the report, the Oaxacan municipality of San Dionisio del Mar is also in danger, which is why they are in talks with the Mayor’s Office.
