Surprisingly, on Friday, February 2 in the morning, the “Disney Magic” cruise ship arrived at the remote terminal of this port from New Orleans, United States, reported the National Port System Administration (Asipona) in Progreso.
Of the 1,014 crew members and 2,517 passengers on the ship, only 50 toured the attractions in the city. The boat was only in this port for four hours, until at 11 a.m. when it sailed to New Orleans.
Therefore, the few tourists who disembarked could not hire tours to visit Mérida, the archaeological zones, and other attractions in Yucatán.
The waiters Eduardo Pérez López and Candelario Vargas said that they found out about the arrival of the “Disney Magic” because they saw it docked and, upon asking the municipal Tourism staff, they informed them that its arrival in Progreso was scheduled at the last minute.
Due to the lack of notice, the artisan market did not open and the street vendors, troubadours, masseuses, and other service providers did not work.
The bus terminal, in turn, assigned only three units to bring tourists to the port, as it was informed that they would not hire tours. The next arrival of the “Disney Magic” is scheduled for Wednesday the 7th. The sales were low, but service providers expect them to improve with the Carnival, which began the day before yesterday, although it would be affected by cold front 32, which would arrive in Yucatan on Monday the 5th.
