Despite the bad weather, hundreds of Campechanos carried out the “March for Democracy”.

CAMPECHE.- (Sunday, Feb. 18th, 2024).- As in several cities in the country, Campeche joined the call for the “March for Democracy”. Despite the adverse weather, hundreds of people gathered early in the morning at San Martín Park to begin the march along the Baluartes Circuit until they reached the famous “Puerta de Tierra.

At the event, several speakers, including leaders of non-governmental organizations and politicians, took the microphone to urge respect for democracy in the next federal electoral process and promote the exercise of free voting.

The possibility of a State election was strongly rejected and respect for the autonomy of the bodies that the Executive seeks to eliminate through its legislative initiatives was demanded. Furthermore, the importance of an effective division of powers between the Executive, Legislative and Judicial was emphasized.

The march in the capital of Campechana passed peacefully, occupying only one of the traffic lanes to avoid interfering with vehicular traffic. This citizen act reflects society’s commitment to defending democratic principles and strengthening institutions in the country.
