President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in the morning presidential conference ruled out violence breaking out during the electoral process in June of this yer.l
The president rejected the forecasts of the study prepared by Citibanamex, which estimated a possible intervention by organized crime that could generate violence in the electoral campaigns.
López Obrador assured that crimes are decreasing (especially homicides), which is totally false according to official data.
“We rule out the unleashing of electoral political violence on election day.” AMLO stated.
“Before there was a criminal association, unfortunately a narco-state came to exist. But this no longer exists in the country. This criminal association does not exist. The line is drawn: crime is one thing and authority is a different thing, they used to be the same in previous administrations but not anymore,” said the president.
Obrador was alluding to the six-year term of former President Felipe Calderón, specifically to the former Secretary of Public Security, Genaro García Luna, who was detained in the United States and accused of links to organized crime.
AMLO insisted that in his government there are no political prisoners, repression, torture, espionage, censorship, or massacres, “it is different because we come from a social struggle.”
