The Faisanes (pheasants) Robotics Club of the Metropolitan Technological University (UTM) will compete in the XV Robotics and STEM Skills Championship, in Chihuahua, where they will seek their pass to participate again on the world stage in Dallas, Texas.
According to a bulletin, the university supported the plane transfer of part of the team, which traveled on Tuesday, January 16, and will compete against other young people on January 18 and 19 to obtain two places for the same number of teams for the international phase.
The rector of the UTM, Isabel RodrÃguez Heredia, expressed her pride in the club, which was formed two years ago and currently has 15 students who train to perfect their techniques and learning, all of this in addition to their regular educational agenda.
Accompanied by the director of the Industrial Division, Carlos Espinosa Atoche, and the teachers who coordinate the club, Luis Ayil Andrés and Luis Mendoza Pinto, the rector said that the young people are an example for the educational community, since with dedication, organization and with determination they have managed to stand out in competitions without neglecting their classes.
MarÃa RodrÃguez explained that, of the 15 members of the Pheasants, 14 are from the Mechatronics major and one is a student from Industrial Processes.
For the national stage, two teams and two teachers will travel to Chihuahua for the event that will bring together more than 1,500 participants from the basic, high school, and higher education levels from all over the country.
The XV Robotics and STEM Skills Championship is organized by the Autonomous University of Chihuahua and the state government of Chihuahua, in collaboration with the STEM Academy and Robotics Education & Competition Foundation. The international phase will take place from April 25 to 27 in Dallas.
The competition’s mission is to promote the development of essential skills for Industry 4.0 throughout the educational community. Students will focus on a challenge that consists of developing a series of challenges highly focused on process automation. In 2023, the UTM Pheasants obtained their pass to the VEX Robotics World Championship that took place in Dallas, where nearly 100 universities from around the world competed and the Yucatecan students obtained number 44 in the international ranking. For this participation, the State government, from the Secretariat of Research, Innovation and Higher Education (Siies), supported transportation and accommodation.
