The University of the Arts of Yucatán (UNAY) is preparing for the start of one of its most anticipated College Degrees: Cinema, the first generation will start next July.
Its rector, Karla Berrón Cámara, explained in an interview that on Monday, January 15, students will return to classes for the start of the first semester of 2024 for the majors of Contemporary Dance, Classical Dance Teaching, Musical Arts, Theater, and Visual Arts. Therefore, the degree in Cinema will be added to the other academic offers at the start of the school year which begins at the end of July.
Regarding this new academic offer, she explained that everything is going according to schedule and in a few weeks they will issue the call for the selection process. This year’s novelty is the aforementioned bachelor’s degree in Cinema, which has aroused high interest and, therefore, they anticipate a high demand, preparing by organizing a rigorous selection process, since the institution only offers 20 spaces.
Karla Berrón pointed out that for the next semester, enrollment is expected to exceed 700 students, reaching approximately 720, with plans to continue growing progressively, adjusting to the capacity of the facilities.
When asked about job opportunities for teachers, the rector clarified that the increase in bachelor’s degrees will focus on the capacity of the new facilities.
UNAY has a teaching staff made up mostly of active artists, with specific profiles for each program. In the case of the degree in Cinema, workshops, and research were carried out to evaluate the relevance of the program and identify possible candidates.
