Two more areas of artificial reefs are planned near Isla Mujeres

Mayan figures, boats and planes will be sunk as tourist attractions.

The Nautical Associates of Quintana Roo are preparing work in conjunction with Conanp for two areas of artificial reefs towards Isla Mujeres , and thus have new attractions, but that do not affect the environment.

Francisco Fernández Millán, president of the Nautical Associates of Quintana Roo, pointed out that they seek to sink Mayan figures, boats, airplanes, and make it a tourist attraction, as well as promote a lower environmental impact, since this will reduce the presence on the reef. , hence the interest in creating projects like this.

The National Commission of Protected Natural Areas granted the association the right of Environmental Impact, from which the Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA) was started, and certain requirements must be met, and now the advantage is that they are being contemplated make the sinks, in this way have the two areas. The work will now be with the authorities so that they are formed this year.

The investments are high, however, with the support of nautical companies greater results can be achieved for the benefit of society and the environment.

One of the attractions that tourists seek the most is being able to snorkel , this has an impact on the reefs, however, by fleeing the sculptures this helps.

He said that also for the issue of fishing, those who are dedicated to this can be encouraged to have an artificial reef in an area of less impact on Isla Mujeres, which is why they are already seeking permits.
