“Mérida has an extensive infrastructure to attract convention and academic tourism, it also has cultural, architectural and gastronomic wealth, high levels of security and quality public services, qualities that we are including in the promotion of the municipality at a national and international level through strategic alliances”, declared Mérida Mayor Alejandro Ruz Castro during the opening of the Mexican Pavillion at FITUR 2024.
In the work agenda of Merida´s Municipal President at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2024, which takes place in Madrid, Spain, his participation in forums and meetings is contemplated to present a project to promote the municipality as a strategic point due to its proximity to the archaeological zones, the beach and the high quality of its hospitality services.
Ruz Castro recalled that Fitur takes place from January 24 to 28 , with the objective of promoting brands, presenting new products, learning about the latest trends in the industry, holding meetings with highly relevant representatives of the tourism sector and promoting tourist destinations.
At the inauguration of the Mexican Pavilion, led by Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of Tourism, and Quirino Ordaz Coppel, Mexican ambassador to Spain, the Mayor witnessed the signing of cooperation with the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and toured the stand of the Mayan train, to talk with General Germán Redondo Suárez, marketing director of the means of transportation.
In the second point on his work agenda, Ruz Castro signed a letter of intent with the municipalities of Benito Juárez (Cancún) and Querétaro to promote the arrival of international tourists and exchange strategies linked to good promotional practices for attracting international visitors, especially from Europe, and implementation of promotional actions such as international fairs, among others.
