The Supreme Mayan Council of Yucatán issued a statement clarifying that for the next elections on June 2, the entity does not have the participation of any indigenous candidate in any political party.
They pointed out that until January 29, 2024, no proof of indigenous identity has been issued to any candidate of any political party to have representation in the next elections.
They also made it clear that in order to be granted proof of identity, anyone who requests it must take the Mayan oath and comply with the protocols established by the statutes and regulations.
In addition, they will be subject to investigation of their past and present civic conduct, because no one who continues to be Mayan is until through conscience, conviction and commitment they demonstrate it and verify the precepts and principles of this culture.
They clarified that for more than 4 years a legal framework has been built to support the Mayan government by uses and customs, with norms, procedures, cultural heritage and the organizational structure.
