Structure of the Mexico-Toluca Interurban Train Collapses

An accident at the construction site of the Mexico – Toluca Interurban Train occurred Tuesday January 16 morning in the Álvaro Obregón municipality.

As can be seen in one of the videos of the event, a structure that was to be placed on the bridge fell on at least two vehicles, presumably because the crane was poorly positioned and could not support the weight, preliminary reports indicated.

Local media indicated that the concrete block fell on a taxi, with no injuries reported so far.

A second video, taken at ground level, showed the moment the structure fell to the ground.

Two men who were fixing a truck were miraculously saved from being crushed by the enormous block of concrete that fell at the Interurban Train works, in the Observatorio area, Álvaro Obregón municipality.

The General Directorate of Works for Transportation (DGOT) of the Secretary of Works and Services (SOBSE) confirmed the accident at support 18 located on the Minas de Arena construction site due to the fall of a concrete segment that was being transported on the viaduct. The reason for the incident was reportedly that the crane carrying out the maneuver had a failure. A ruling will be made on-site to determine the origin of what happened.
