The Mexican Association of Hotels in Yucatán revealed the figures for 2023 regarding guest occupancy in the state.
The local hotel sector registered positive growth in occupancy during 2023, according to figures released by the Mexican Association of Hotels in Yucatán (AMHY).
The average hotel occupancy in the entity last year was 56%, exceeding the 54.14% in 2022 and 38.06% in 2021, when the tourism reactivation began after the pandemic.
Mérida consolidated itself as the destination with the highest occupancy, reaching an annual average of 46.41%. They were followed by Izamal with 45.30%, Valladolid with 41.60%, beaches with 36%, and Chichén Itzá with 36%.
In December, state occupancy was 55% and in Mérida 57%, figures lower than those of December 2022. Beach destinations and Chichén Itzá showed growth compared to 2022, while Valladolid and Izamal had slight decreases.
Juan José Martín Pacheco, president of AMHY, highlighted that the recovery after the pandemic has been positive, since occupancy went from 38.06% in 2021 to 56% in 2023. In addition, he stressed that the prospects for 2024 are encouraging given the positioning of Yucatán as a tourist destination.
