A fire at the Emporio Hotel in Acapulco occurred on Wednesday, January 3, just a few weeks after reopening after closure due to damage caused by Hurricane ‘Otis’.

The iconic hotel is located in the center of the Golden Zone of Acapulco, where the work of the emergency forces to contain the incident is already reported.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday, January 3, a fire broke out at the Emporio Hotel in Acapulco, Guerrero.

Preliminarily, it was indicated that the incident began in one of the penthouses located in the south tower, but the causes of the incident or whether there were injuries are unknown.

Videos were spread on social networks from various points of the port in which columns of smoke can be seen coming out of the hotel.

Guests told local media that the hotel staff tried to control the fire with fire extinguishers, but given the persistence of the fire it was necessary to call emergency services such as firefighters and Civil Protection.

Civil Protection of Guerrero closed the circulation of a section of the Miguel Alemán coast towards the Diana Cazadora roundabout.

The media indicated that the incident had already been controlled, leaving material damage in the area where the fire originated as well as a dark layer covering the exterior façade.

After the passage of Hurricane “Otis” on October 25, the Emporio Hotel suffered severe damage, however in mid-November it announced that it would restart its activities on December 15, 2023. The Emporio Hotel had its partial reopening on December 10 to accommodate the Christmas and New Year reservations that it had already scheduled.
