Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal met with Zhang Run, ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Mexico, to continue exploring cooperation opportunities in fields such as the export of Yucatecan products to this country, infrastructure, sustainability, technology, public transportation, communications, connectivity, tourism, and education and investments that generate better-paying jobs for Yucatecans.
During the meeting, the Governor explained the commercial and industrial, logistical, infrastructure, human capital, and security advantages that our state offers to be able to host companies from the Asian giant.
Before the Chinese diplomat, who expressed his commitment to promote economic development through tourism and the transportation of goods and supplies, boosting different industries and making Yucatan more competitive.
“With security, improved logistics, energy, natural gas, and qualified labor, with the Maya Train project and the Transisthmian corridor we are in a position to have the raw material that arrives in Salina Cruz, can reach Yucatán 26 hours later, transform it and in only 48 hours we can ship it out through the port of Progreso,” he remarked.
In that sense, the Governor stated that, with the benefits of these projects, Yucatán has the opportunity to become the new commercial frontier for the ports of the east coast of the United States, which would make the southeast of Mexico much more competitive.
Together with Gerardo Díaz de Zavala, General Director of the Energy and Maritime Operator of Yucatán (OEMY), and Rafael Hernández Kotasek, head of the Yucatán Transportation Agency (ATY), he highlighted the important infrastructure projects, as well as energy sustainability, which have led Yucatán to rank third among Mexican states that have best taken advantage of nearshoring, through the improvement of its logistics and the use of renewable energy.
During the meeting, some of the energy projects that will make Yucatán more competitive were also presented, for example, the Combined Cycle plants that are being built in Mérida and Valladolid, with capacities of 499 MW and 1,020 MW, respectively, as well as a total investment of more than 1.2 billion dollars, which is the result of coordinated work with the Federal Government.
Also, he pointed out that investment is being made in improving the supply of natural gas to meet the demand of the industry through the Cuxtal II Project, which contemplates the construction of 700 kilometers of pipeline with 3 new compression stations and 2 new measurement stations and It will double the transportation capacity of the Mayakan system on the peninsula, going from 250 million to 520 million cubic feet per day.
In the presence of Diana Pérez Jaumá, in charge of the Office of the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (SDS), Juan Carlos Vega Milke, Undersecretary of Energy of the Secretariat of Economic Development and Labor of the State, and Mariana Villamil Rodríguez, in charge of the Directorate of the System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family in Yucatán (DIF), the Chinese diplomat recognized that Yucatán has a rich culture, qualified human resources, excellent management and economic development condition.
The ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Mexico recognized that this presentation by the Governor further increased confidence in the cooperation between China and Yucatan; He also assured that he appreciated the openness towards Chinese transportation, energy, wood, and furniture companies that Yucatán has had.
“We know that Yucatán offers a fair, safe and non-discriminatory environment to Chinese companies, we are going to give priority to Cooperation with its state, we know that its state is one of the largest with regional cooperation it has had with provinces of China “We must take greater advantage of these types of mechanisms and this embassy wants to create that bridge to explore new projects for future generations,” he concluded.
