At least three people were trapped and several more injured, in addition to extensive damage, was the result of an accident that occurred on Thursday morning on the Mérida-Chetumal highway, at kilometer 3 on the Tecoh-Mérida section.

According to preliminary data, the accident occurred on November 30 near the community of San Antonio Tehuitz.

A passenger van from the Acanceh-Tecoh route and a tow truck were involved in the accident. The accident occurred when the tow truck driver decided to return to a prohibited area. Due to the impact, the front of the truck ended up destroyed.

According to reports, three people were trapped inside one of the vehicles and were rescued alive. Other people were injured.

The tow truck driver was at the disposal of the Kanasín Municipal Police.

In the afternoon, the same Mérida-Tecoh stretch was the scene of another serious accident that claimed the life of one person and left two injured.

The events occurred around 3 in the afternoon, when two cars were traveling towards Chetumal, but for unknown reasons they collided with each other.

The impact was so strong that one of the cars caught fire and the occupants, apparently mariachis from Peto, managed to get out and get to safety.

However, the driver of the other vehicle, who preliminary reports indicate was a Tecoh resident, died almost immediately after the accident.

Agents from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) and Civil Protection, as well as paramedics, arrived at the site, who helped the injured people. Police cordoned off the area and later personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) arrived at the scene for the necessary procedures and the removal of the body.
