Thermoelectric plant in Valladolid plans to start operations in 2024

The construction of the Valladolid III thermoelectric plant, named the “Riviera Maya” combined cycle power plant (Valladolid), is around 50% complete, and according to some workers, it could conclude at the end of next year if some type of delay that forces it to be prolonged.

With the construction of the thermoelectric plant, much more energy will be produced than the two existing plants, such as Valladolid II, which is private, and “Felipe Carrillo Puerto”, which has been operating for just over 30 years.

The new thermoelectric plant is built to provide electrical energy to the Mayan train, a 4T project, but it will not be ready when the railway begins operations in a few days, according to national information.

Project workers say that a plant in the city of Mérida will provide electricity to the Mayan train plan while the one in this city concludes.

Employees of the energy-generating plant project commented that the completion is scheduled for the end of 2024, but it is also possible that it could be extended for a few more months, everything will depend on the supply of resources for the continuation of the work.

The project currently generates about 500 jobs, but there will be many more as it progresses, especially professionals will be needed.

Valladolid lacks engineers, so others who come from various states of the Republic are hired.

The presence of workers from other parts of the Republic benefits the economy in the city since they have houses, apartments, and rooms for rent, and at the same time, they spend part of their salary on food and another part they send to their families.

Many of the houses and rooms left by the workers who were at the beginning of the Mayan train project are now occupied by employees of the thermoelectric plant.

The plant is built at the back of the land where the “Felipe Carrillo Puerto” plant is located, so that from the outside you can hardly see what is done inside the property.
