The Tren Maya, just inaugurated on December 15, suspended its operations for the last days of the year. The suspension of operations will begin this Thursday, December 28, as announced by the official account of the Tren Maya this morning.

The announcement comes after the first trip for ticketed passengers will be delayed four hours due to “technical failures.”

“The Tren Maya will suspend its operations starting today, canceling the 11 a.m. trip, until January 1, 2024, on the occasion of the pre-opening of the Cancún – Palenque section,” the federal government reported.

Because “Día de los Inocentes” (a sort of April Fool’s Day) is “celebrated” on December 28, and with less than a month since the inauguration of the Tren Maya, users questioned whether the announcement of the suspension of operations was a joke.

The above caused several complications for passengers who had already purchased their tickets, some of whom traveled from other parts of the country to travel on the Tren Maya and who were informed just a few hours before the suspension of the service.
