A woman ended up in the hospital in serious condition on the night of Monday, December 25th, when she somehow lost control of the vehicle and fell 50 feet from the Mérida-Progreso highway bridge.

The woman was driving her Ford Ranger on the aforementioned road, and while driving on the upper part of the bridge, she lost control of her unit and was projected against the retaining wall.

The impact was so strong that the car jumped over the wall and fell from a height of approximately 15 meters, falling over on its awning in the ditch between the bridge lanes.

Seconds later, the emergency numbers received the report, and rescue units from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) responded immediately.

Firefighters and paramedics joined forces to free the woman from the twisted irons of what was left of her car, with the famous “jaws of life,” a maneuver that took around 45 minutes.

After removing the driver from the vehicle, the woman was boarded into an ambulance and taken to a hospital, where her condition was reported as serious.
