Merida Municipal Police deploys December Holidays operation

As part of its December operation, the Municipal Police of Mérida recommended that the population try to make greater use of bank card transactions and, as far as possible, avoid cash to make purchases in these coming days given the Christmas Eve and Christmas celebrations, where a high concentration of people is expected in the city center.

The head of the group, Mario Romero Escalante, highlighted that around 380 elements have been distributed in different parts of the Yucatecan capital to safeguard society and provide security and order. In December, there are no holidays or special permits.

“We expect a greater influx of people, especially these days that remain between now and the 24th, we consider that the concentration will increase, the dates for the sale of pyrotechnics are also coming and we are carrying out a special operation for that, we coordinate with Civil Protection, the SSP, the Army, and the National Guard, together they make tours not only in the center but throughout the city to avoid accidents,” he indicated.

“In previous years we have had some capacity of more than 300 thousand people circulating in the center during these dates, in terms of vehicles right now we cannot say that there are peak hours, otherwise it is all day, throughout the city, due to the number of cars circulating, there has not been any major incident, we are working and we ask that citizens notify corporations in case of any possible crime,” he added.

Romero Escalante highlighted that the Municipal Police deployed officers on foot, on motorcycles, and in patrol cars, to keep an eye on everything.

“There is a lot of money in circulation, we recommend that people try to use cards, instead of cash if they are going to go out to buy and handle money that they do not go out alone, not encourage crimes ourselves, take our precautions,” he stated.
