A sustainable Mérida translates into changes that allow the city to continue growing consciously and responsibly with its environment, stressed Cecilia Patrón Laviada.

In a meeting with militants from Vicente Solís, Azcorra, and Unidad Morelos, the PAN pre-candidate for municipal presidency, said that to care for and protect the city “every action must be thought of for the good of future generations.”

“What we enjoy today is because someone thought about leaving us a better future, and that is what I want for you, a city where our children can continue laughing and be happy.”

He indicated that an important strategy to achieve sustainability in the city is to take the next step in the issue of tree planting, which brings great benefits for the now and future of medium-sized families.

“The sustainable city takes care of the environment and through the arborization of our cool Mérida we can plant the future that we want to leave to our children, in this vision of a single Mérida that promotes community work with social and human commitment for the benefit of all. ».

Trees help mitigate the negative impacts of urbanization and some of their main benefits can be felt with the generation of oxygen and better air quality, more shade that helps reduce high temperatures, and increased urban biodiversity, plants, and animals.

It also improves rainwater collection and water quality and influences the improvement of physical and mental health.

Mérida has strategic documents to increase the tree coverage of the city such as the Municipal Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Compounds, as well as the Municipal Green Infrastructure Plan and the Urban Tree Inventory of the municipality of Mérida.

Also, with the help of citizen participation and the Mérida City Council, policies and programs have been promoted such as the Forest Crusade, Adopt a Tree, Arborize for schools, Arborize public apartments, and eco-parking lots.
