According to the “Historical HIV Report second quarter of 2023”, with a cut-off date of October 16, Yucatán “went back” to third place when it was ousted by Colima, among the states with the highest rate of new cases diagnosed with HIV, of according to the publication of the National Center for the Prevention and Control of HIV and AIDS (Censida).
The state of Quintana Roo remains in first place with a rate of 41.78 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. Colima reports 20.96 per 100 thousand and Yucatán in the third place, 19.46 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, which is higher than what it reported in the second quarter of the year (in which it occupied second place), which was 14.58 per every 100 thousand.
The fourth place is for Tabasco , with a rate of 16.36 and the fifth, for Veracruz, with 14.87 new cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.
It is worth mentioning that until 2022, the municipalities with the highest incidence of HIV cases according to the statistics of the Yucatan Health Secretariat (SSY) were Umán, with a rate of 49.2 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, followed by Mérida, with 36.3; Kanasin, with 32.8; Progreso, with 23.5 and Valladolid, with 19.2.
This year, the SSY has not updated its records. At the end of 2022, the entity ranked third nationally , with an incidence rate of 22.18 new diagnosed cases.
