Vila Dosal and López Obrador boarded one of the 11 Ie-tram units that are already in use in Mérida, Yucatán, where they confirmed the high technology used in this innovative transportation service, which is the first 100% electric in Southeast Mexico and the only one of its kind in Latin America.
Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated the first Ietram route: Paseo 60-La Plancha-Teya, the first 100% electric public transport in Southeast Mexico and unique in Latin America, brought to Mexico by the Government of Yucatán, with which the future of mobility is about to change in the state.
After making a trip from the Campeche Station to the Teya Station of the Mayan Train, Vila Dosal, and López Obrador, gave the “green light” to 11 new IE-Tram transportation units, where it was confirmed that the transformation of mobility in Yucatán is a reality, offering a first-class and high-quality service at the level of what Yucatecan families deserve, without taking a step back.
Accompanied by the Secretary of National Defense of the Government of Mexico, Luis Cresencio Sandoval González, and the Governor of Campeche, Layda Sansores San Román; Vila Dosal and López Obrador boarded an Ie-tram unit where they confirmed the high technology used through these environmentally friendly and inclusive means of transportation. There, the Governor of Yucatán pointed out that the Ie-Tram will connect with the Maya Train stations of Poxilá and Teya, in addition to connecting Mérida with Kanasín and Umán.
“Mr. President, we appreciate the coordination since it is a joint investment of 2.8 billion pesos, of which 60% will be contributed by the state; 23%, by the Federation, and 16%, by the private initiative; and this transportation system has a range of 350 kilometers already with the pantographs that will be installed and the old buses will be replaced with electric ones just like this one… Environmentally speaking, this is equivalent to planting 170 thousand trees in the next 10 years,” said Vila Dosal.
Finally, the Governor thanked the President for his support, trust, and coordinated work “to carry out projects that will not only be a model in Mexico, but in all of Latin America,” he stated in the presence of the Secretaries of the Navy, Admiral José Rafael Ojeda Durán; of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez and the head of the Yucatán Transportation Agency (ATY), Rafael Hernández Kotasek.
It is worth remembering that the 5 routes that make up the Ie-tram, a project promoted by the Government of Yucatán, are: Paseo 60-La Plancha-Teya, which will begin operations tomorrow; Mejorada-La Plancha-Kanasín, whose operation will begin on December 30; La Plancha-Uady Faculty of Engineering; La Plancha-Umán and La Plancha-Umán-Poxilá.
At the site, Vila Dosal also informed the President that the photovoltaic plant that will generate electricity for the Ie-tram electric buses is being built, which will have an installed electricity generation capacity of 7.5 megawatts (MW), which will be able to supply renewable electrical energy.
Regarding the units, the Governor highlighted that they have an accessible design through 4 sliding doors, low entrance for older adults and people with disabilities, signage of places reserved for them, seating arrangement and interior distribution, adaptable hallways, sound information and, in terms of technology, electronic collection, among other amenities.
As part of their features, Vila Dosal continued, they have USB ports with fast charging for cell phones, WiFi, real-time geolocator to be able to see your route from the “Va-y-Ven” app, 11 cameras that allow better driving and Identify cyclists and pedestrians to avoid accidents.
These modern vehicles provide all the benefits of a tram, but with the flexibility of a bus; It can carry up to 105 passengers and generates 0 carbon emissions. It is 12 meters long; modular battery system, designed to suit many needs; specific air conditioning for electric vehicles, and the latest in technology and safety, the Governor detailed.
