A “zoo” of felines was secured by personnel from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) in the municipality of Jamay, in Jalisco, where the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) would control criminal activity.
Federal authorities reported that a total of seven wild cats were seized in the area after the search.
The FGR, through the Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor’s Office (FECOR), Jalisco Delegation, completed a search warrant granted by the District Control Judge Specialized in the Accusatory Criminal System, for a property located in Jamay.
In this search, two tigers and five jaguars were seized, in an area allegedly controlled by the CJNG.
According to the statement, during a routine patrol through the municipality of Jamay, agents from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) noticed the presence of the felines in a property in the area, considered one of the bastions of the criminal group.
The military elements had already received complaints about alleged organized crime activities in the region, according to the ministerial minutes.
Consequently, they made it known to the Public Ministry of the Federation (MPF), which requested a search procedure for said property for the crime.
The search warrant was executed by the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM) and the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), with the support of specialized experts from the institution and military personnel.
Regarding the felines insured, it was stated that they were a Bengal tiger, an albino tiger, and five jaguars.
The area where the searched farm is located is the same where the CJNG sent a caravan of three vehicles with Mother’s Day gifts such as household appliances in 2021, and the same year they delivered toys to children from Zapopan and Cuautitlán de García Barragán.
However, it has also been the scene of strong clashes between armed civilians – alleged members of the cartel – and the National Guard as well as drug trafficking. Local and national media have reported that criminal activity in Jamay and surrounding areas in Jalisco would be under the control of the CJNG.
