For the second time in a row, the Arizona Diamondbacks signed a Yucatecan pitcher.

This is Daniel Núñez, a prospect for the Olmecas de Tabasco, who in the last two years stood out in the Mexican Winter League.

Núñez becomes the fifth prospect signed for MLB to emerge from the Tabasco farm in Gonzalo Medina González’s period as head of the board.

Medina led the contract signing ceremony, an event that was verified in the press room of the Centenario Stadium, where Luis Alberto Peña, talent scout for the Arizona team, was also present.

Núñez Flores, born on March 4, 2003, recently played with the Mexican Invernal champion team, a team from Puebla, Laguna and Tabasco, and it was precisely in this context where Arizona determined to obtain his signature.

A native of the Yucatecan capital, the pitcher, who began playing at the age of four on the fields of the Yucatán League, did not miss the opportunity during the press conference to thank the Tabasco board for the trust placed in his development since he He was recruited at the age of 14 by the Olmecas talent scout, Juan Carlos Uribe, who did not hesitate to sign him once he returned from a U-12 World Cup held in Taiwan in 2017.

“I feel very grateful to the Olmecas, which is an organization that always cares about keeping its young people active in the branches, for me it has been important to be constantly launched in competitive leagues, that was something fundamental for me to be able to debut in 2022 pitching against Tecolotes in Nuevo Laredo,” said the peninsular pitcher, who was accompanied by his proud parents during the signing of his contract with the National League champion team.
