The Interinstitutional Emotional Support Program “I am with you Acapulco Otis 23” has the mission of providing psychological help and emotional support to those affected by Hurricane “Otis” , since mental health in critical situations such as a natural disaster is just as relevant as physical health and social supports.

This program, which combines the efforts of groups and institutions such as the Mexican Psychoanalytic Association, the National Institute of Psychiatry, the Mexican Psychiatric Association, the Condesa Clinic, the World Health Organization, the Pan American Health Organization, and the Ministry of Health of the Federal Government was also present in other natural disasters such as the 2017 earthquakes and the Covid 19 pandemic.

According to the program bulletin “ I am with you Acapulco Otis 23 ”, it is important to attend to the mental health of those affected by the natural disaster, since, if not done, it is possible to develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, in addition to the fact that there are more possibilities of suffering from addictions, committing suicide, suffering from domestic violence and loss and abandonment of studies and work.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a condition that causes lasting neurobiological effects on the entire psychic organization of the individual.

“The main symptom is the blockage or decrease of the functions of the Ego since the available psychic energy is used to control excess anxiety, causing psychic dullness, total or partial amnesia, reduction of interest, decrease in feeling emotions, difficulty in concentrating, insomnia, irritability and great difficulty in carrying out the tasks necessary to face and overcome the problems caused by the impact of the catastrophe,” reported the Interinstitutional Emotional Support Program.

The Interinstitutional Emotional Support Program aimed at assisting the victims of Acapulco is free, and offers help with a group of experts in disaster situations via video call or telephone.

For more information, you can consult the program’s social networks, or dial the number 55 4025 3231.
