This was announced through a video by Heriberto Núñez, general secretary of the taxi drivers union, and Nicolás Sánchez, director of public policy at Uber México, who described the agreement as “historic” for the progress towards modernization and transportation technology. in the region.
“Today what we are celebrating is a new stage of Uber in the state. Six years ago this would have been unthinkable, but what we are achieving today is making way for modernity, technology, and many benefits for the people in the state, both for tourists and for the people who live here,” said the Uber representative.
“Cancún is an example that with dialogue you can overcome any obstacle, and that is why I am very proud to announce this alliance with the Andrés Quintana Roo Taxi Drivers Union, who will take advantage of the advantages of innovation and technology by using the ‘app’ from Uber,” he added.
And now, local taxi drivers who wish to do so will be able to use the Uber Driver app under conditions similar to those of independent driver partners, as is currently the case in other highly tourist destinations such as New York, Paris, London or Punta Cana, thus offering an opportunity for more than 12 thousand drivers to increase their income and improve their competitive position in the market.
In addition, taxi drivers will have security features of the Uber application, including Ride Check and PIN code, guaranteeing a safe and reliable experience for passengers, after years of attacks, as revealed by local media.
“It is a work alternative and we must take advantage of it, we have to change to technology, it is very necessary and we have to move forward,” said Heriberto Núñez, general secretary of the taxi drivers union.
