The murderer of the dog known as Rufo has already been declared guilty and it is expected that the sentence will be handed down in the coming days, as stated by Miriam López, director of the Sanando Corazones Perrunos de Yucatán Association.

“We are in the intermediate stage of the process where we have to wait a while because that is what the constitution states, the guilty party is still in prison and the sentence must be issued soon, exactly what day I do not know, but I know that before the end of the year it will be issued.” Miriam López said.

She pointed out that both the prosecution and them, through the court-appointed lawyers assigned to them, requested the maximum sentence for the guilty party, which is 6 years, and they trust that it will be granted.

“We hope they give it to us so that it can be a clear example to all animal abusers and set a precedent on this issue.” Lopez continued.

It must be remembered that the murder of the little dog Rufo occurred last August and was an event that shocked the Merida civil society due to the cruelty and violence with which it was carried out, which led to marches demanding justice for the canine, and the maximum penalty for the killer.

Even the Attorney General of the State, Juan Manuel León, declared that they would ask for the maximum sentence to set up a precedent in the state regarding animal violence.
