More Tren Maya workers in Quintana Roo are protesting for unpaid wages

Just weeks before the inauguration of a first section of the Mayan Train, a group of workers from a company that supplies joists and blacksmithing in general for section 5 south, carried out a work stoppage yesterday morning demanding the lack of salaries in the last month.

The stoppage of work began very early in a production property located in the ejidal lands to the west of the city, right next to the line of the Mayan Train section 5 South, in the Yorogana area, where there are flooded caves of fresh water.

They pointed out that the debts range from 20 thousand pesos to 35 thousand pesos for a month without receiving a salary. They were hired by Erbanimex, a commercial company established in 2019 in Boca del Río, Veracruz. The company now maintains contractual relations with Ingenieros Civiles y Asociados (ICA), the main person in charge of the construction of the Mayan Train section 5 South.

There are around 50 workers that have not received their salary. The payment agreed with the Erbanimex company upon being hired was five thousand pesos per week, at least for the general assistant. Some have received minimal compensation during this time without salary, but others have received no type of financial remuneration.

These people were brought to work on the Mayan Train and are originally from the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, and Veracruz.

A person who said he was a supervisor of the aforementioned company, told the media that the problem faced by the workers should be resolved by the corresponding authorities and not by them.

The workers mentioned that they just want to receive their earned wages and never work there again. Until the closing of the information, the strike continued.

Currently, the work for the construction of the Mayan Train section 5 is accelerated, since President Andrés Manuel López Obrador promised to inaugurate this segment on February 29, 2024.
