The Mérida City Council awaits the opening of the Sectur call for the registration of new magical neighborhoods. José Luis Martínez Semerena, director of Municipal Economic Development and Tourism, pointed out that the resources assigned to improve San Sebastián, La Ermita, and Xcalachén will be assigned in the following year and this will include federal participation to improve urban infrastructure.
Martínez Semerena spoke with the media about the results of the last edition of La Noche Blanca, the tourist activities in Mérida at the end of the year, and the conditions to increase the number of Magic Neighborhoods in the city.
“Initially, despite the rain that occurred last Friday night, hundreds of Meridans and visitors waited for the scheduled shows. In some cases, the expected sales in gastronomic activities were not achieved, but many entrepreneurs are considering holding other events in December to try to recover the investments made for the Noche Blanca”, he noted.
“In the case of the merchants who offered their products at La Ermita, -Feria del Panucho- they did not have good sales, therefore, it is proposed to reschedule the activities, and the new dates will be announced shortly”, he continued.
On the topic of tourism promotion, the municipal official highlighted that the Mérida City Council participated in the Magical Towns fair that was held in the state of Hidalgo in recent days, carrying the image of La Ermita and San Sebastián, to seek greater experiences and proposals to improve the conditions of our Mérida Barrios.
He explained that the municipality expects the opening of the federal call in 2024 for the registration of new “Barrios Mágicos” (Magical Neighborhoods) and request recognition for five districts of Mérida, which is expected to include La Mejorada, Santiago, Santa Ana, San Cristóbal and San Juan. and that the Historic Center of Mérida may obtain this certification as well.
“With this distinction, the image, services, and infrastructure of these areas of the city can be addressed for a better presence and identity. The idea is to create specific activities to improve the quality of life conditions of the people of Merida in those areas. Among other things, the location of the city’s next Jazz Festival is being analyzed, as well as points where other artists can perform to consolidate the historic heritage of our city”, Martinez Semerena concluded.
