The municipal government will process an injunction against the project that has already been authorized by Semarnat for the Wyndham Alltra hotel.

The government of Playa del Carmen is preparing a legal battle to prevent a hotel from extracting sand  in order to recover only its beach front , a project that has authorization from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat).

This project that is sought to be challenged is the recovery of El Recodo beach with the endorsement granted by Semarnat to the Wyndham Alltra hotel .

The current municipal administration will have a period of 30 days to present the demand for administrative litigation that allows it to annul the authorization issued by the federal agency in favor of the commercial company Playa Gran, promoter of the environmental impact project.

This consists of the extraction of sand off the coast of Playa del Carmen , specifically in the banks of the material called “Mamitas”, located 1.6 kilometers northwest of the hotel, in the open sea.

The developer will use the sand to exclusively recover the coastal front of this lodging center on El Recodo beach. It foresees the approximate extraction of 14,870 cubic meters of the material, according to the resolution issued by Semarnat.
