Gran Parque La Plancha’s last details will be ready in December

The Gran Parque La Plancha project is 90% ready and should be complete in about two weeks, according to governor Mauricio Vila.

He specified that currently, the part of the auditorium, which has capacity for seven or eight thousand people, and details of lighting and small areas where the grass is still being laid are being resolved. “There was so much grass that we brought, that the one from Yucatán was exhausted and the remainder had to be bought from other states,” he commented.

Vila Dosal explained that, due to his insistence and coordination with the three levels of government, the construction of the park would open an enormous urban opportunity for the city of Mérida and especially for the Historic Center.

This, he added, represented a challenge because they integrated three fundamental aspect for its realization: that the space continues to be a historical reference since it is part of a central railway station that marked an iconic era of our past, associated with progress, henequen boom and is a symbol of social concurrence.

Secondly, achieve a project that, due to its extension of 52 acreres located in the Historical Center, will become a lung for the city, transplanting more than three thousand trees, which will sprout leaves in the coming months, giving the benefits provided by large metropolitan parks such as La Fundidora in Monterrey, which today is an integral center of coexistence, identity and tourist recreation.

The third and most relevant is its strategic location concerning Paseo de Montejo and the Historical Center itself, which allows it to take advantage of its vocation to be the center of multiple tourist, cultural, and social projects.

The Gran Parque La Plancha Park is the result of several years of efforts to convert a place abandoned for 30 years into a new attraction for Yucatecan families and tourism, said the governor.

With this work, they fullfill a long-awaited wish of Yucatecan society, “we managed to build among the Yucatecans the best park in all of Mexico here in Yucatán, and we are comparing it with parks like La Fundidora and La Mexicana,” he added.
