Things are looking good for the holiday, but weather forecasters say the days leading up to Thanksgiving will bring wet weather and potentially hazardous conditions that could complicate travel plans as people hit the road all over the U.S.
“Areas of severe thunderstorms, gusty winds, heavy rain, and heavy snow are all possible” along the East Coast, according to the National Weather Service.
The worst of the weather is expected to hit the Eastern Coast of the United States late Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning — peak travel time for those spending Thanksgiving away from home. AAA estimates some 55.4 million motorists will travel 50 miles or more for the holiday.
Accuweather forecasts that “rain and wind will likely cause the biggest disruptions to air traffic and travel along the I-95 corridor,” which includes New York and New Jersey. The forecaster says it expects airport delays across the nation and potential flooding on major highways Tuesday and Wednesday, including Interstates 80, 81, and 95.
