Car theft in Yucatán increased this year compared to 2022, according to the monthly report prepared by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.

Until the end of October, 36 thefts of four-wheeled vehicles had been formally reported before the corresponding authorities, the report says.

In the same period of 2022, 30 car thefts were recorded, in 2021, 36; in 2020, 33. In 2019 more robberies were registered, for a total of 54.

The monthly breakdown for 2023 is as follows: in January, four robberies; February, seven; March, zero; April, one; May, four; June, five; July, four; August, five; September, two, and in October four.

The report of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System refers to the cases in which an investigation folder has been integrated by the SSP. All of these robberies were committed with violence.

In the case of motorcycle theft there was a decrease compared to the previous year. Until last October, 53 thefts of these types of vehicles had been documented, compared to 64 in 2022, during the same period.

In 2021, 50 motorcycle thefts were documented.

Another criminal act that became relevant was the theft of auto parts.

It was last Monday, November 20th when four individuals from Mexico City were arrested in Merida accused of stealing auto parts. This arrest, if reported by the person or parties affected, would be the first documented case this year and would correspond to November.

The detainees, as we reported, are Alejandro CB, 23 years old; Benjamín Alejandro EA, 33; Mario Alberto OM, 27, and Enrique Hugo BS, 30. However, the statement issued by the Ministry of Public Security indicated that they had committed robberies in different parts of the city.

The rate of this type of robbery has been low and the figures for the last five years account for them, according to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.

From 2019 to date, 31 thefts of auto parts have been reoprted. 2021 being the year with the most cases, counting 21.

In general, motor vehicle thefts have decreased slightly compared to last year, going from 95 incidents until October 2022 to 89 in the same period.
