The Day of the Dead Parade 2023 is approaching, and the authorities of Mexico City are preparing for the day when they will hold a new edition of the “faithful departed” march that culminates in the Zócalo square of Mexico City, which is recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Ministry of Culture in the capital has opened the call for those interested in participating in the annual parade. For this edition, the Great Day of the Dead Parade will take place on Saturday, November 4th, starting from Chapultepec Forest towards the Zócalo square in Mexico City.
The parade will consist of two citizen groups, as stated by the Ministry in a press release: one group will comprise contemporary dancers, and the other will consist of traditional dancers. They will select 100 individuals for each group, with registration limited to 250 people for each, the Ministry noted.
Therefore, those interested in being part of the commemoration of the faithful departed must meet the following requirements:
- Be over 18 years old.
- Have experience in contemporary dance or pre-Hispanic dances.
- Have availability for rehearsals on Sundays, October 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th.
- Fill out the online registration form.
Additionally, those interested in participating in the Day of the Dead Parade must fill out one of the registration forms, depending on their experience or training, available on the Ministry of Culture’s website. The Ministry emphasized that it is essential to consider that they will contact applicants via email to confirm their registration and notify those selected to proceed further in the process.
