Two dead people and three injured, some of them agents of the Mexico City police, were injured in the middle of a shooing with criminals in the vicinity of the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome, in the Venustiano Carranza municipality. The incident happened a few hours before the start of the Mexican Grand Prix in which Sergio “Checo” Peréz will participate.
The suspects, who allegedly committed theft of a car and a driver moments before, were traveling in a white vehicle, from where they responded with firearms when they observed the presence of the police.
The events occurred in the early hours of Friday, October 27, when the agents were following a car that, according to investigations, related to the robbery of a driver and a vehicle in the northern area of the city.
When they stopped at 47th Street and 14th Avenue in the Ignacio Zaragoza neighborhood, the perpetrators shot at the police officers.
The agents repelled the attack, while two of them tried to intercept the unit. However, the driver accelerated in the opposite direction on the same avenue and ran over a policewoman and another officer.
Other police officers followed the car and located it crashed and abandoned on Río Churubusco Avenue and its intersection with Plutarco Elías Calles Street, in the Granjas México neighborhood, in the Iztacalco municipality. The suspects fled.
Paramedics who arrived at the scene diagnosed one police officer with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and the other with injuries from being run over, for which they took them to a hospital. The policewoman, who suffered multiple contusions, was treated at the scene. One of the officers later died in the hospital.
A 25-year-old man, who identified himself as the driver of a vehicle through the application that was traveling in the area, was injured by a gunshot wound in the back. They took him to a hospital, under police custody.
In addition, at the site, a man, approximately 35 years old, also died from gunshot wounds.
The authorities are studying the recordings of the surveillance cameras in the area to identify the probable attackers.
