The state government is looking for Spanish hotel chains to develop more lodging centers in the south of Quintana Roo, thus detonating more infrastructure and boosting the international promotion of the destinations.

Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Quintana Roo’s Secretary of Tourism, explained that during a recent working tour in Spain, the portfolio of projects and policies being developed in the state were presented, as well as the need to detonate the south of the state in terms of tourism, which will require a greater supply of lodging, which they are seeking to cover with more boutique hotels, which are required for the area and not the large developments.

“Actions are being carried out in the south of Mahahual, in Bacalar and Chetumal, with this we hope to get investors to bet on Quintana Roo, and the idea was to plant the seed, which we hope to see become a reality in the coming years,” he added.

Different boutique chains, which now operate in destinations such as Ibiza, Mallorca, will be analyzing the diversified offer, since they are not looking for large developments, and it would be private investments that would be detonated, based on the infrastructure and projects that are being carried out with federal and state resources.

“The hotel groups know very well the actions that are being carried out in the northern zone, however, there are many attractions towards the southern zone that seem to be very good projects and we believe that foreign investments can be attracted”, he mentioned.

He said that the Mayan World corridor and routes that are being promoted with the federal project of the Mayan Train caught their attention since they believe that they are differentiated products not only to attract more tourism but also to invest and innovate.
