Felipe VI, King of Spain, presented the Mexican businessman with the Enrique V. Iglesias award for the development of the Ibero-American Business Space.
For a country to have development, it is necessary to sustain it by integrating the marginalized population with education, health and better jobs, said businessman Carlos Slim Helú.
Upon receiving the Enrique V. Iglesias award for the development of the Ibero-American Business Space from the King of Spain, Felipe VI, Carlos Slim, honorary president of Grupo Carso, highlighted that the best public or private investment made is that to combat poverty and marginalization in society.
Carlos Slim for development
The founder of América Móvil also assured that we are facing a new civilization that unfortunately has not managed to take shape in the world. He noted:
“Poverty, marginalization and ignorance have always been ethical and social justice problems, but today it is an economic necessity to address them, so the best public and private investment is to fight poverty and incorporate the marginalized population into education, health and employment every time.” better paid.”
Carlos Slim Helú stated that “development is based on social and economic well-being, with better, better-paid jobs,” in addition to the fact that it is necessary to strengthen the internal market of each nation because it feeds back to development.
“As we integrate part of the population into modernity, education, training and employment, we will transform more rapidly […] Unfortunately, these are changes that are not carried out and that makes the transformation very slow, except in the case of China, where it already occurred.”
In this sense, he called for “eliminating marginality” and betting on a “generous” civilization that helps combat poverty. “People in vulnerable situations must be incorporated into the labor market.”

To this end, Calos Slim gave the example of China in recent years, and assured that “no country today has the level of that market, incorporated into the world of modernity.”
The ceremony took place at the Zarzuela Palace, in Madrid, in a brief private event, where Carlos Slim claimed the legacy that Spain left in Mexico during the three centuries that the colonial period lasted, and trusted that the association between the two countries may become “very strong” again in the short term.
You will have a seat at Metrovacesa
The Spanish developer Metrovacesa will expand its Board of Directors to 13 members, by adding Juan Antonio Franco Díez at the suggestion of FCC, a company through which Carlos Slim owns 20.9 percent of the real estate company’s shares.
It is expected that on November 28, through its shareholders’ meeting, this new director will be ratified, as reported by Metrovacesa to the National Securities Market Commission in Spain.
“Currently, Franco Díez is an advisor for the real estate area of the CEC group (majority shareholder of FCC), as well as president of the patrimonial company Jezzine SLU (a company controlled by FCC). Both groups develop, among others, certain construction, real estate and concessions activities,” the company said in a statement.
Since last October, Carlos Slim became the second largest shareholder of the promoter, launching a public offering of shares, through FCC, to acquire 20.9 percent of the capital of Metrovacesa.
