The incident took place at the archaeological site of Uxmal, causing a momentary suspension of the event.

A short circuit suspended the event of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, at the Uxmal archaeological site in Yucatán.

The incident occurred at a corner of an archaeological building, resulting in flames and smoke.

As a result, the speech being given by the Director of the Archaeological Zone Improvement Program (Promeza), Mariela Carrillo, was suspended.

The president stood up to observe the glow of the fire and the smoke, although some people in the audience asked him not to do so.

In response to the fire, two members of Civil Protection used fire extinguishers to put out the fire.

Subsequently, the event resumed.

On another note, although the president is prohibited from referring to the 2024 electoral process, López Obrador insisted that no one will stop the change, stating:

“There are already things that are irreversible, that cannot be turned back. What has been set in motion will not be stopped, they will not be able to stop it, because the people have already become aware. I always talk about the most important thing being the change in mentality of the people, and that is what is happening in our country.”

“Imagine if the corrupt return, do you think that can happen? Of course not, who would want that? No one. So, let’s not worry. José Huchim Herrera, director of the Uxmal archaeological zone, there will be funds in the future to continue working.”

He proposed this in the area during a meeting with archaeologists and restorers.

Huchim had requested budget allocation from the federal executive head for the conservation and restoration of the archaeological site.

AMLO traveled to Uxmal as part of his inspection tour of the Tren Maya, which began this Friday.

He assured that the 1,554-kilometer project, which will be inaugurated unfinished in December, is already boosting growth in the southeast, and there is great anticipation among tourists.

“There is a lot of employment in the southeast, in the first quarter of this year, the north grew by 2 percent, the southeast by six. This has never been seen before,” he emphasized.

Finally, he said, “We are implementing a comprehensive program of well-being for the benefit of the people, and it is the Tren Maya. Tourism is already growing, and not just from nationals; there are people who ask us when the Tren Maya starts running, I want to get on it, how do I make a reservation.”
